Hi Mark, Sounds very much like your PSU is the root cause. It is likely, given the age of your machine, that the Digital Board has not been modified, which can also cause these problems. The existing recordings on your HDD can be recovered with the JVC Pro Advisor software. In short, Modify the Digi...

HI Paul, Can you post a pic of the Power Supply ? Capacitors, being `wet` devices are the first to go if stored for a long time. The batteries in your remote control dont leak, but if you leave it in a drawer for a long time, they will. Capacitors and batteries are electrically similar. I think if y...

Hi Andy, I presume we are talking about the MH20/30 recorders ? In which case, the mod depends on the Diggy Board Assy no. LPA10247-03A,B,C and D require a 3 resistor mod ------------03E requires a different 3 resistor mod ------------03F requires a change to the above mods ------------0G and above ...

Hi Paul, Good pics, thanks for posting. Most Electrolytic capacitors die from use, these have died from lack of it ! The circuit boards look in very good condition, especially for an old unit that`s been stored for a while. If you can get all the capacitors replaced with equivelents, you should have...

Forgive me for jumping in here. The hard drive spinning up whilst in standby is quite normal. I think you`ll find it happens at the same time each day. It`s just a HDD self test. As your machine makes it to standy, albeit infrequently, the HDD should be OK. A corrupted drive wouldn`t make it to that...

Unfortunately, testing the HDD in windows was a bad idea. Windows writes to the HDD at bootup, and this will have overwritten critical data on the Filesystem/MBR. Your original `Loading` problem was probably due to an ageing PSU or Digiboard which were, respectively, easily fixed and not easily fixe...

None of the JVC software/firmware is in the Public Domain.
That is not to say, it is not available, however.
It would be interesting to find out how much an approved JVC repair shop would charge for a burner/HDD replacement.

The original LG/Hitachi drives can still be sourced new. Mechanically, the removal of the old drive and installation of the new is not much more than removing screws. Electrically, it`s just a ribbon cable and molex power connector. Finally, the burner will need to be flashed wth the relevent JVC fi...

If your satisfied the PSU is repaired, then only the Digital Board or the HDD will cause constant `Loading`. Make sure you discharge the 400V primary electrolytic input cap before changing the Regulator. The charge should have dissipated but it sounds like there may be a fault lurking there. It`s lo...

I read your previous posts regarding your unit. When you power the machine on from cold, and once the 50 second `Loading` has stopped, do you get dashes in the front panel display ? The firmware the unit needs to start is all located on the HDD. So if you get the unit to a STBY condition this would ...

If you go for either an MH-300 or MX10, make sure the drive has been modified or preferabely replaced. Only burners from Aug 06 to Nov 06 can be rectified with the firmware update, and by no means all of them are successful. Fortunately, a new burner can be changed easily. The M100 and M150 use a si...

If the Regulator (STRG6653) has blown, it will have taken a few other components with it, which will need replacing.
Reformat with which filesystem ?
I assume you know it isn`t a Windows/Linux system

Perhaps I wrongly gave the immpression JVC are in big trouble. Whilst the future is a tad uncertain, I`m sure they will be back with first class consumer products. Although just an ex-subsiduary of Matsushita, they are a big company in their own right. As for the MH-300. The early units had burners ...

Officially, no. If it`s under warranty then you should make use of it and let JVC correct the problem at their expense, and unfortunately your inconvenience. If the unit is out of warranty, then either JVC or a JVC approved service centre is your next port of call. You bear the cost. The last option...
