Interesting.

If there was a disc available with the software on, it would be good news.
JVC UK deny there is such a disc! but there must be one for them to do it in the factory.

JVC Closed most service accounts and spares

I feel it is worth mentioning that here in the UK, JVC have now closed almost ALL independant dealer service/ spares accounts as part of their strategy for the future. This means I too now have only limited access to JVC. For the time being we dealers still have online technical info/manuals availab...

My advice when a unit like this has blown up and is obviously unstable would be to abandon that power supply now. Given the age of these recorders I would imagine a used working one could be found on Ebay for very little money (especially if the hdd is faulty). Putting your hdd in that machine would...

It will need the power supply repairing. Capacitors that are mentioned in these forums and probably other components will be needed, so it won't be a DIY repair. It will need a repair centre to do it for you. With luck the HDD won't be corrupted. If it is then all your recordings are gone. :( (I don...

Yes you should be able to sucessfully clone the disc. (as long as the HDD is the same make/model)

Use RAW mode to get an exact copy

Its good that you have got the psu back working. From your original post and from what you say now, it appears that the DVD drive is probably starting to fail. The symptoms of only recognising some discs and not reading/writing until its warm etc are all quite common when the drive is failing. There...

Hi

The filesystem is unknown. It was developed for JVC in a hurry by Fujitsu. The only thing we know is that all the video recordings are on there in mpeg transport streams. I don't know how to get these off the HDD. Perhaps someone with very good HDD skills could tell us how?

Hi Your initial problems were the capacitors needing replacement- as we have mentioned in the forum many times. Now your power supply has blown up. On the mains/Live side of the psu, You will need the STRG, the low value Res near it (5108?) the small capacitor near it, maybe other diodes and small r...

If you hold the eject button for 10 seconds while plugging the unit in, does it eventually open the drawer?

If it does open, then the power supply is ok and probably the HDD is corrupt.

Check that then we will talk again

I've never had any luck with the Advisor pro. It tells you the HDD is corrupt/faulty, but can't actually fix it!!
