There are a couple of issues with this decoder at the present time.

When these boxes are used on the Winter Hill (North West England) transmitter ITV1 (ITV3?also) will have picture but no sound.

The boxes have software V1.12 in them ex factory.

A new V1.15 software is available for dealers to update the boxes with to cure the above problem, however I have just found there to be a problem with this-
Intermittent failure to come out of standby is 1 symptom &
Coming on with ( PR Empty) a blank screen, - requiring a re-tune- is the other.

I am awaiting a newer software at present to hopefully resolve this.
I will post the resolution in due course.

V2.0 software

The new version software is being Beta tested at the moment- and from the machines I've done so far, appears to cure the issues above.

It is likely that when approved there will be an auto-over-the-air-update sent to all the JVC boxes so there will be no need to take your machine into a dealer...

In the meantime, the software needs to be uploaded via the COM port into the machine- a slow & messy process..

The latest version has now been officially released.... Remember though that 'If it aint broke don't fix it!!'

The new software addresses the No Sound fault on Winter Hill AND the bug in the earlier version that kept emptying the PR list..

There is still an anomaly I don't yet fully understand... When first powered up most boxes 'boot up' in 5-8 secs, but some take upto 1 minute !!! Once booted- they're fine from then on. Nothing to worry about I suppose..

JVC have now sent out a couple of OVER-THE-AIR updates for all these units. Latest firmware is V2.2

The anomaly still remains unanswered as to why some units take a long time to boot up.

Update on these Boxes.

We stopped selling JVC freeview boxes some time back due to the number of call outs etc. Costs us too much to provide that level of service to customers, when you only make a few quid selling them. Have been selling other brands since.

However, many of the problems appear to stem not from faulty boxes, but from their power supplies.

These black psu devices run quite hot- and are supposed to put out a nice smooth 6 volts DC. When measured they are usually ~6.02v. Now if that voltage drops to 5.96v, the box doesn't like it and a number of symptoms occur.

Slow boot up is one of them, as is locking up and going to a black screen.

Older power supplies are now starting to fail due to prolonged heat and the first symptom you may experience is garbling up of channels & reading 2/3 or 3/4 signal strength. Analogue aerial signals passing through look grainy. This is due to the 6v DC not being very 'smooth'. You can't fix the old psu. You will have to pay ~?30 for a new JVC one, or find a 1.5amp 6 volt regulated supply.... there are many out there cheaper.
