Problem is solved! I didn't get around buying a new eeprom as the article ID:s were a bit confusing. I also discovered that though I could tune in channels manually I got no sound, which seemed strange. Reading andywilks reply yesterday reminded me that I hadn't tried just pulling the mains plug and...

Can't store tuner channels on the HM-HDS1

Hi all, After replacing the HDD a year and a half ago, my HM-HDS1 has been completely hassle free. But now I need your help once more: Yesterday I discovered that my unit had lost all its channel settings. I can still set channels manually, but as soon as I close the confirmation screen, all presets...

Hi all,

Just wanted to tell that my HDS1 is working again! After five HDD crashes I finally got hold of a good drive. It's been sitting in my unit for three weeks now, probably recorded/played 30 - 40 hours in total. Seems it was just a matter of finding a drive in good condition after all...

Keep us posted. I have put my unit aside for the moment, haven't tried any more drives since my last post.

Not very much luck here, no... The drive makes that clicking sound when powering up but otherwise seems completely dead. At least I can return both drives and the Ebay seller will arrange for a refund. But as he said: "This is the first time we have had so many failures ... We have regulars tha...

I got the replacement drive, ran the PowerMax Advanced Test (took about 30 minutes) saying the drive was certified error free, put it in the HDS1 and left it on for 90 minutes - and then it failed just like the others. This time the drive isn't even recognized in BIOS afterwards, nor PowerMax (I tri...

I did test my original drive and the first of the used drives (when it no longer worked in the HDS1) and PowerMax indicated they were both failing. I haven't had time to remove the second drive from the HDS1 yet to test it, but when I try to turn the unit on it makes a continuous sound similar to th...

Hi again. It's been a lot of struggle and I'm about to give up... As my original drive was beyond recovering, I bought two used (said to be tested and fully working) drives on Ebay. The first of them died after just 1 - 2 hours of use. The second one crashed tonight, less than a week later (maybe 10...

Unfortunately, the PowerMax tool doesn't recognize drives connected to the ATA100 connector on my motherboard. Can I connect an ATA100 device (like the Maxtor drive) to an ATA33 connector?

I formatted the drive in Windows (FAT32) as well, and ran ScanDisk afterwards. It detected bad clusters on the disk, so my next move now is to pick up an error free drive.

Thanks again for all your help and suggestions!

Backing up the hard drive was extremely slow (around 20 MB/min) and after reporting "bad blocks encountered on read" twice, I aborted the backup. Writing the image file was quick (900 - 1000 MB/min) and successful, and with the re-imaged drive the JVC started up as normal with Live Memory ...

Hi again, I have the PAL model HM-HDS1EU labeled "made in Germany" (it came with a German manual). Before I downloaded the disk image from your FTP, I removed the case just to check that it has a Maxtor drive (model D540X-4K, p/n MX4K040H2). The Swedish JVC main service centre had no exper...

I tested my unit for a few more hours today, and have now found even the Live Memory unreliable. If I was sure about the warranty, I'd probably not hesitate to send my unit back. However, the normal warranty is only valid for 12 months. After that (month 13 through 24), I as the customer have to pro...

I have now tested my unit more thoroughly, and discovered that if I just leave it in the "blue flashing state", the unit will eventually turn itself off to normal standby mode. When I turn it back on, Live Memory (pause/rewind/fast forward) and recording seem to work, but not HDD playback....
