i honestly dont know, i would have to do the same research you are, as i'm not an electronics techie, What i do know though, is that sometimes sensitive things dont like different components fitting, so i would still recommend having a look at RS spares or CPC and getting the exact ones... using old...

yeah, if you are sure they are faulty you have to change them before going any further, you need to look to CPC or RS for spares, they should be easy and cheap to find, then do some careful de-soldering of the originals, it is possible tat it is just a dry joint on those 2 original ones, but replace...

Again Gerrt is the expert on this, but, if i understand things correctly, the data held on the eprom chip ties it directly to the model of drive, and thus will not work with any other drive model, even JVC found they screwed up in doing this, that is why when you send it in for repair, or request th...

Flashing the eprom is only required if you add an 80gb drive and change the chip, otherwise it is not needed, provided you are using a direct replacement drive (of the same model number) Gerrt could confirm this further i'm sure i have not encountered your issues before, and it was so long ago that ...

yeah, sounds like the drives gone again. These units are seriously susceptible to damage in the event of a power outage, i have a small UPs for mine now which will power it and the topfield for about 16 hours in the event of a power failure, just have to re-wire some stuff and get it plugged in befo...

yup, thats the sony one i have, and yes, excellent... just one problem with it.... i bought one for the tv, and a second one for supplying my JVC video and the HDS1, but, sony neglected to build in a second IR channel option, so there is no way to control the 2 separately in the same room by remote ...
