sahbi,
Are you in PAL land? If not, the image you downloaded may not work on a non-PAL unit.
NB: This is only speculation, I cannot be sure unless a non-PAL user tries the image and reports back.

Yeah, some of the old stuff is still excellent. I remember paying just over £1000 for a JVC S5000EK S-VHS deck in 1990 (see pics below). I must have saved for several months to pay for that baby. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/acippico/Ebay/5000.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/aci...

I concur. Sounds like the drive has been corrupted. To be safe, you ought to re-image it (if you still have a copy of it). Alternatively, you could try my patented 'desperation method': Unplug the unit from the mains Open it up Unplug the HDD ribbon cable Power up the unit for about 2 minutes Unplug...

Yeah, the connectivity can be really handy for transferring to other formats. I've got a Sony HD recorder that doesn't do that, much to my annoyance.
Have you got the Sony VTX-D800U by any chance? If so, I concur. I have one and it's an excellent set-top box.

lop1,
Thanks for letting us know your good news.
I'm taking more of a back seat nowadays, as I don't use my HDS1 any more. Someone else may want to take you up on your offer though.
Andy.

PS: I love Brittany. You guys have such wonderful beaches!
PPS: Your English is very good, too. :)

Daveowen, I'd PM Andywilks on this forum to see if he knows what could be causing that. He's more of an expert than me.

Hi Gary, and welcome to the forums.

I confess I know nothing about these machines. I don't know whether our resident JVC expert (Andywilks) has seen this post, but if he hasn't then it's worth PM'ing him to ask directly.

Good luck,
Andy.

Hi Elk, Unfortunately I cannot supply replacements. This is more of a 'self-help' forum. If you want to do it yourself then I'm afraid there is currently no image to copy back to a new drive. Several members are working on it, but until then you'll either have to use an official JVC repair shop (see...

Hi Steve, Funnily enough, I had an email recently from someone who managed to do almost exactly what you've done. He discovered that the HM-HDS4 80GB Hitachi drive works fine in the later HM-HDS1 models (the ones that have been 'chipped' to use a larger drive). If you want, I can publish your offer ...

Quick answer. Need to investigate further: I thought the answer to this was obvious - until I checked the back of my unit... Usually VCRs have a variable control to change the UHF output frequency, but I don't see one on mine. I read in the manual that the UHF output channel can be changed (P98) but...
