Hi Paul, Hate to say it, but that looks like the glue they use to secure the capacitor to the board. I've had an electolytic capacitor blow up on me and it didn't have any goo inside like your example. What's the texture of the goo? If it's fairly solid then I'm willing to bet it's securing glue. I ...

Tony, many thanks, and good info. I have added this drive to the list of supported types and credited it to you: http://cippico.com/technical/jvc-hm-hds1/hd-models.htm.

Well I suppose you could experiment. You could image the first 1GB, restore it to a clean drive and see if it boots. But to do this you would need to image the whole original drive into 1GB chunks first, then just restore the first chunk. As I said, I don't know how you do that, but I shall see if I...

Ben, you don't have to use the Linux version. Most versions of ghost (Windows and DOS) can automatically split the files into chunks as they go. Also, why would you use DVDs? I thought you were thinking of making the image available online - or have I misunderstood you? A. DOS version here: ftp://sa...

Hi Ben, glad to hear your drive is still working. Of course it would be great for the community to have a copy of the drive available for download, but as AndyWilks says, I'm not sure what you'd do to get just the OS imaged. On some manufacturer's machines there is an option to initialise or format ...

jrs31, Your English is fine. It's better than a lot of English people I know. I can't answer your question, although I'd say you've got nothing to lose. Assuming you have the Quantum Fireball LCT 20 (check model details here: http://www.cippico.com/technical/jvc-hm-hds1/hd-models.htm), try do...

VIP Code
In an effort to stop spammers and robots signing up to this bulletin board and spreading their filth and nonsense I have had to introduce a 'VIP' system when signing up. Any new members wishing to sign up will have to use this code when entering their details: 4260 This is a pilot scheme. If you hav...

Search facility broken.
You may have noticed that you can't search the forums any more. This also affects all other search types, such as searching for a user's posts. I admit: I broke it (unintentionally). I'm looking at how to fix it but I'm not getting anywhere fast. Any PHP experts out there? Sorry for the inconvenienc...

Wayne, I've added that drive to the list of drives that don't work. I also did a bit of research as to why it wouldn't and I drew a blank. As far as I can tell, both these drives are identical apart from jumper settings. It's really strange. Just to clarify: I've made the assumption that you made a ...

Hi burwood, Thanks for the post. Good to hear that Peter Tyson were so accommodating. You don't get that very often, do you? It's great to hear a good news story, even though your DR-MH300 is eating its drive... I've got the same problem with a 3-month old desktop Cyberman that the Gadget Shop won't...

Hi Tony. Sorry to hear about your HDS4. I don't know anything about this beast but my fellow BBS admin AndyWilks might know. I'd PM him from this BBS to ask him. This link should get you through to the right place: http://www.cippico.com/bbs/privmsg.php?mode=post&u=4
